Our Mission

Care that understands melanated skin — and the experts who deliver it.

To improve access to knowledgeable care for melanated skin, while recognizing and preserving the expertise of the professionals advancing the field.

Why we exist

Finding a professional who truly understands deeper skin tones shouldn't come down to luck — yet for far too many people, it does.

Melanin-rich skin behaves differently. It pigments differently, scars differently, and responds differently to actives, peels, and light-based treatments. But the training, the visibility, and the recognition of practitioners who genuinely understand these differences has lagged behind — leaving clients to guess, and leaving brilliant professionals unseen. The Melanated Skin Registry was built to close that gap: to make knowledgeable care easier to find, and to give the people advancing this field the standing they deserve.

Why I built this

I've spent 24 years in information technology — a career built on a simple idea: that good systems quietly make people's lives easier. You spend enough time building things that connect people to what they need, and you start seeing gaps everywhere one doesn't exist.

My path into skin care was more personal. Like so many people, I came to it through my own struggles — years of navigating problematic skin and trying to find answers that actually worked for me. That journey led me to pursue an esthetics license and eventually open my own suite. But time had other plans: between my career and life's demands, I couldn't stay behind the treatment table the way I wanted to. What stayed with me, though, was everything I'd learned about how hard it is — especially for melanated skin — to find a practitioner who truly understands you.

So I did what I know how to do. I built the system I wished had existed: a place where people can find professionals equipped to care for their skin, with confidence instead of guesswork. But I wanted it to be more than a directory. I wanted to hear from the chemists behind the formulas, the educators shaping the next generation, the dermatologists advancing the science — because the expertise in this field already exists. It's just been scattered, hard to find, and too often unrecognized.

The Melanated Skin Registry is my way of bringing it together — honoring the people doing this work, and making their knowledge easier for the people who need it to reach.

How we pursue it

The Registry is not one thing — it's several, each serving the same mission:

A vetted registry

A curated, reviewed directory so people can find licensed professionals who understand melanated skin — not sort through guesswork.

The Safety Check

A free, guided tool that helps clients make more informed decisions before seeking care. Patient education, built into the front door.

Editorial features

Profiles of the practitioners, educators, chemists, and researchers shaping the field — recognizing expertise across the full discipline.

The Pigment-Aware standard

A credential and a standard of care, so that being listed here means something — and clients can trust what it represents.

Where we're going

We're building the place where expertise in melanated skin becomes visible, discoverable, and connected — where a client can find the right professional with confidence, where practitioners are recognized for the depth of their work, and where a shared standard raises the quality of care for everyone. This is early, and it is intentional. We would rather build something trusted than something big.

Expertise like this shouldn't be hard to find.

Whether you're seeking care that understands your skin, or you're one of the professionals advancing the field — this is your place.
